Gaytri Mantra Ucharan

hariH Om,

Meaning of Gāyatri Mantra- Swāmi Viditātmānanda ji

http://www.arshavidyacenter.org/verse/Gayatri_Mantra.pdf

Pronunciation: http://www.arshavidyacenter.org/upload/Chants_2009-10-29_19:42:58.mp3

The audio clip given above is the correct way to chant the Gāyatri manta, as presented in the Kr̥ṣṇa Yajur Veda. Below are things to take note of

om.
bhūr bhuvaḥ suvaḥ
tat savitur vare-enyam
bhargo devasya dhīmahi
dhiyo yo nah prachodayā-āt

1) There are five short breaks in this mantra, at the end of each line as arranged. First break after 'om', second break after 'suvaH', and so on.

2) The word varē-ēnyam is often mispronounced as varē-ēniyam, with an 'i'. That is a mistake because it divides varenyam into 4 syllables instead of three, thus altering the whole mantra. So it should be pronounced strictly as varē-ēnyam

3) the third mistake people often make is with the word dhiyo.. it is not dheeyo, but dhiyo, it has a short 'i' '. Dhiyo is one word, not dhee+yo, that makes it two syllables which is wrong.

4) the words 'nah prachodayā-āt' is pronounced as naf prachodayā-āt due to sanskrit grammar rules, the 'h' sound becomes an 'f' sound. Try saying the 'H' sound followed by 'P', automatically your lips purse into a shape which facilitates blowing out air which sounds like 'F', but a soft 'F' not a sharp one that's created through your two front teeth.

Be sure to listen to the sound sample !

Life Is Too Short- The mystic sutra

A man was going to meet his mother who lived two hundred miles away from him.On the way, he stopped at a flower shop to buy some flowers to impress his mother. He saw a little girl sitting outside the flower shop and sobbing. He asked her the reason and she replied, "I wanted to buy a red rose for my mother. But I only have seventy-five cents, and a rose costs two dollars."

The man smiled and said, “Come on in with me. I’ll buy you a rose.” He bought the little girl her rose and ordered his own flowers for his mother. As they were leaving he offered the girl a ride home. She said, “Yes, please! You can take me to my mother.” She directed him to a cemetery, where she placed the rose on a freshly dug grave.

The man returned to the flower shop, canceled the wire order, picked up a bouquet and drove the two hundred miles to see his mother.

Moral:

  • Life is too Short.
  • Spend as much time as you can with loving and caring people who love you.
  • Enjoy each moment with them before it’s too late.
  • There is nothing important than family.

Karma : Door to Hell and Heaven

Two friends were moving across the nasty place filled with prostitutes, one of them had a desire to spend a night and indulging himself in physical pleasure. The other one was given this idea to which he denied, and told his friend not do so .

They both parted, one going with a prostitute and the other with anger and resentment in his mind decided to visit a temple and read a holy scripture. Along the way he was thinking and comparing that how lowly his friend was.

The first one, as he moved with the prostitute began to have resentment on what he was doing. His mind was engrossed in how great his friend was, who decided to visit the temple and read a
spiritual books. He was greatly started of miss that.

The other with the religious book in his hand and siting in the temple, was engrossed in the thought of his lowly friend.

An earthquake struck claiming many lives, both the friends included.

The officers from heaven and hell were busy with their work. The first one was taken by the officers of heaven, and could see at distance his friend being ruthlessly driven by the officers from hell.

'There must be some mistake', he said, 'According to what we were doing I deserve to be there and that friend of mine deserves to be graciously led by you to the heaven.'

'We are following the orders, and there is no mistake,' the officer from the heaven said.

The first one demanded and explanation for what he is in the heaven and his friend is in hell.

'Your mind was engrossed in how great your friend was who visited the temple and read a spiritual books, while your friend's mind was engrossed in the thought of you that how lowly you were, filled with deep resentment.' came the answer.

'Thinking of others as low and self higher is the door to hell.' the voice continued.

Lord Rama and Ram Rajya

KAR HIT KARHIN RAM PAD PUJA
RAM BHAROS HRIDYA NAHI DUJA

Bhagwan Shri  Rama is the seventh incarnation of Bhagwan Vishnu, who appear on earth whenever there is great loss of virtue among people.. Rama, the perfect avatar of the Supreme Protector (palan karta) Vishnu, has always been popular among the Hindu deities. Rama is the symbol of courtesy and virtue, a man of values and morals. Ramachandra is Maryada Purushottama, which means the perfect man. Lord Rama is considered to have taken birth on the earth to destroy the evil forces of the age

Lord Rama has been described as "Maryada Purushottam" i.e. ideal in behaviour and actions. He fought famous Lanka war and defeated demon Ravana

Much of Lord Rama 's life-details are based on Balmiki's Ramayana which was translated into easy language by Goswami Tulsidassji for common folks . The epic is called as Sri Ramcharitmanas and has 7 descents or Kands.

RAM RAJYA

Ram Rajya, where peace, prosperity and tranquility reigned, for there was no one to challenge the seat of Ayodhya, literally the land without wars. Incidentally in Hindi, "Ayodhya" means "a place where there is no war." Hence "Ram Rajya" is described as an ideal society. Is there any country that doesn’t want peace, prosperity and tranquility?

So in last DOHA  Goswami Tulsidassji assures that " Seekers who devoutly take a plunge into holy RAMCHARITMANASA or the intellectual lake containing the exploits of Lord Rama will have an ever-cooling balm without getting scorched by mundane rays ."

Rama went undercover every night to hear the pleas of his subjects and have a common man's perspective of his rule. During Rama's tenure as King, the people apparently had no locks on their doors as they feared no burglaries or other such misfortunes.

Thus let us most humbly bow  at holy feet of all of them .
SHRI RAM, LAKSHMAN, BHARAT SHTRUGHAN, SHRI HANUMAN JI, MATA SITA.

Lord Shiva and the king

Once there lived a king who was very rich and powerful. He was a devotee of the Lord Shiva. Every year, he performed a grand ritual for the worship of Shiva at a special temple he had built. Priests from all parts of the country would come to his kingdom and participate in this ritual and the festivities that followed. During this event, the king would distribute lavish gifts to all the attendees, and free food and clothing to the poor. Thus, the king would spend an enormous amount of wealth in the worship of Shiva.

The king felt smug in the conviction that he was the greatest devotee of Shiva, considering the wealth and effort he spent on His worship. After one such lavish ritual the king retired to his palace happy and content in the belief that he had done a great service to Shiva. Engrossed in the thoughts of his own greatness, the king soon fell asleep. As he slept, he dreamt that Shiva appeared to him and said, "O king, you are not a true devotee. You are proud of yourself. If you want to meet my true devotee, go to the edge of the forest and visit the poor wood-cutter." The king woke up distressed and thought to himself, "A mere woodcutter ? How can a woodcutter be a greater devotee than a mighty king like me ?"

The next morning, the king set out into the nearby forest to find the woodcutter. As he reached the outskirts of the forest, he saw a little hut and a woodcutter setting out for the forest to cut some wood. The king stopped him and said, "I have heard that you are a great devotee of Shiva. Please tell me how you worship Him." Folding his palms humbly, the woodcutter replied, "I am but a poor woodcutter who earns a mere two coins a day. Out of this I spend half for my food, a fourth for charity, and save the rest. I chant His Name at all times throughout the day, and every Monday, I offer a simple meal of broken rice to Shiva. I know nothing other than Him." On hearing the woodcutter's simple and humble form of worship, the king was moved. His heart was purified by meeting the Lord's true devotee. He returned to the palace chanting the Shiva's Name, a more humble man.

Lesson of inner self

Once, a newly married couple came to live in a rented home. The next morning, when they were having breakfast, his wife watched from the window that some clothes were spanning on front terrace , she said - "I think these people don't know how to wash clothes and keep them clean ... Just look how dirty they are? "

The husband did not listen to her with much attention.

After few days at the same place clothes were scattered. After seeing this his wife repeated her words " When they will learn how to clean the clothes!!"

husband was listening but he didn’t respond.

Now it' was a thing of the day whenever the wife looks over clothes, objurgate begins.

About a month later they were having breakfast sitting at same place. As usual his wife looked at front roof, "Oh wow, I think now they have sense, Today clothes are looks very clean, it's obvious that they are disturbed by anyone!"

Husband said, "No one disturbed them."

"How do you know?" Wife asked in surprise.

"Today I woke up early in the morning and I had clean the glass of the window, that's why clothes looks clean to you." The husband said.

The same thing applies in life: how many times we see others it depends on how we are clean on the inside. So before saying the pros and cons about anybody we must see at ourselves and must ask that are we ready to look something better in others or still our window is closed.

Lesson From this:

  • Should not make any opinion about others on just seeing.
  • Wait for right time and use correct way to teach something to someone, as husband did with  his wife.
  • Before speaking right and wrong about others, we should look our inner side.

Value every individual’s contribution however small

|| Jai Sri Ram ||  || Jai Sri Ram ||  || Jai Sri Ram ||  || Jai Sri Ram ||  || Jai Sri Ram ||  || Jai Sri Ram ||

When Lord Rama started constructing  the bridge between India and lanka, thousands of vanars worked night and day. They pulled out rocks and heavy stones from the mountains, and carried them to the sea. They cut them into shape and began to build the bridge.Lord Rama felt happy. “How hard they work! Their love for me makes them work like this,” thought Rama.

One day Rama saw a small brown squirrel, who wanted to pitch-in with his part. But being a tiny little animal, he could not do much like the vanars and the bears who were carrying large boulders on their shoulders.

The squirrel wet itself in the water and rolled in the sands. He then walked across to the bridge and shook the sand off, so that when Rama walked, he would walk upon the softest sand.

Suddenly, a great vanar was carrying a large heavy stone on his back and the squirrel came in his way. The vanar jumped back.“Here, you little thing,” shouted the vanar in a voice like thunder, “you’re in my way, I stepped back and you’re alive now. But I nearly fell. And what are you doing here?” The little squirrel looked up at the great vanar. “I’m sorry you nearly fell, Brother Vanar,” he said in his small voice, “but please always look where you are going. I’m helping Rama build the bridge. And I want to work hard for him.” “You, what?” shouted the vanar and laughed aloud. “Did you hear that!” he said to the other vanars

The squirrel did not think this funny at all. He said, “Look, I can’t carry mountains or rocks. God gave me only a little strength. I can only carry sand. My heart cries out for Rama and I’ll do all I can for him.”The vanars said, “Don’t be foolish. Do you think you can help Rama? Do you think we can build a bridge with sand? He has a big army to help him. Go home and don’t get in our way.”

“But I want to help, too,” said the squirrel and would not go.

He carried the sand again from the shore to the sea. The vanars were angry and one of them picked up the squirrel by his tail and threw him far away. The squirrel, crying out the name of Rama, fell into his hands. Then Rama held the squirrel close to him. He said to the vanars, “Do not make fun of the weak and the small. Your strength or what you do is not important. What matters is your love. This little squirrel has love in his heart.

He then held the squirrel closer to him and said, “Little one, your love touches my heart.” He said these words and passed his fingers gently over the little squirrel’s back.

Since then, there were three white stripes on his back. These were the marks of Lord Rama’s fingers.

Learnings from this:

  • The importance of feelings in participating in team work, and that even the smallest contribution is important in some way.
  • Use reasoning to form an opinion.
  • Value every individual’s contribution however small.
  • Accept people and respect individual differences.

          Every obstacle presents an opportunity

In ancient time, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hide himself behind a tree and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Next a group of soldiers came upon the boulder. “This rock is blocking our path,” they said. “I guess no one will need our services today”, and they turned around and went home as well. The king watched person after person, Many of them loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way.
Then a farmer came along carrying a load of vegetables. Instead of becoming discouraged like the others, he got excited by the presence of such a challenge. On approaching the boulder, the farmer laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the farmer picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed that a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who would remove the boulder from the roadway. The farmer learned what others never understand. Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's condition.

Obstacles can do one of two thing:
1.Stop us in our tracks; or
          2. Force us to get creative.

"The Lord uses adversity and difficult obstacles to strengthen us. He does not always cause the situation, but He will take every hard thing in our lives and use it for our good."

What Lord Shiva teaches Saint Namdev ?

                                    Lord Shiva and Saint Namdev

Once Lord Shiva came in Saint Namdev's dream and said, "You are my very good devotee but still youhave to learn something before you can be with me all the time. He said him to visit the temple and meet another one of  his devotees. His name is Vithoba. After that, tell me what you have learned from him." Then Lord Shiva disappeared. Saint Namdev woke up in the morning and set out to visit the temple.

When Namdev reached temple, he searched forthe devotee Vithoba. Suddenly while waiting, Namdev saw an old man, sitting with his feet on the statue of Lord Shiva. Namdev could not believe that a man could disrespect Lord Shiva like that. At the same time, the temple priest introduced Namdev to the old man, saying that the old man was Vithoba.

Namdev got confused! He thought that what could he learn from someone who was so disrespectful towards God! Just then Vithoba said, 'O Namdev, I am so old that it is very difficult for me  to even move my limbs. Please help me to move my feet to a place where there is no God." Namdev began to move the old man's legs here and there, but wherever he put the old man's legs, Lord Shiva appeared !

Repentant, Namdev fell to the feet of the devotee Vithoba and begged for his forgiveness. Thus, Saint Namdev learned from the devotee Vithoba that God or Lord Shiva is present everywhere in this Universe, in all living and non-living things. With this learning he soon experienced God's presence everywhere and remained with God wherever he went.

Moral : From this story we learnt that God is present in everything. The God principle is present in the people around us, animals, birds, wind, fire and even our schoolbooks, pencils, toys and so on. Hence, to experience God's joyful presence, we should treat everyone and everything around us with respect. Also, we can pray to all the things we use, before starting an activity. For example, if we are about to eat, we can pray to the God principle in the food, Maata Annapurna, to make us strong and to be able to remember God (chant) with every bite.

          Lesson of Wisdom

Lessons of Wisdom - Shiva, Parvati And The Bull

Once lord shiva and his consort, Parvati, were travelling with their vehicle - the Bull. The Lord had taken the form of an old man, while, Parvatiji remained young and beautiful. On the road all passers-by looked on with amazement at this odd couple of an old man and a young woman.

On the way, Shiva said, ''Parvatiji, my dear, please sit and ride on the bull durig this journey.'' She obeyed and mounted the bull while Shiva walked alongside. The village folk and other strangers bitterly criticised, ''What a selfish woman! She is young and healthy and yet she chooses to comfortably ride while forcing the old man to walk.'' Shiva changed his mind. ''Parvatidevi, the people are mocking you. It is wiser that I sit and you walk.'' So saying, Shiva sat on the bull's back. Further along, other strangers came with sharper comments, ''O look at this mean, bully of a man. He's fat and robust, and evil too. He enjoys the ride while forcing this young and gentle lady to walk on foot.''

Hearing this both of them climbed the bull. At least, this would ward off the criticisms. But they were gravely mistaken and no sooner had they come to the next village, people sneered and jeered. ''Look at this nasty couple. Both of them have mercilessly climbed upon the bull. They'll kill the poor creature!''
Now there was only one option left. They dismounted and allowed the bull to walk freely. They accompanied it on either side. While they walked, they met new people with new bitterness. They laughed at them, shouting ''What foolishness! They have taken a bull as a vehicle and neither of them is using it.'' Straight away Shiva told Parvati, ''Come let us do what we think is right, and live the way we want to. The world will never appreciate or see what we do as correct.''

In this world, even if we perform a good deed not everyone will like it and support it. The problem lies with the nature of our world. If a Sadhu shows miracles people say, ''He's into black magic and possesses evil powers.'' And if a Sadhu avoids miracles, some will mutter complaints, ''O! He shows no miracles. He's ordinary and is of no use.'' This is the line of thinking our world works on. It is crooked from both ends and whatever you do, the world will never see you straight. Therefore, pay no attention to the words of the worldly people and continue to devoutly worship God.

          Some Tips for life

          # 1: Always share info with your wife
A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing
up her shower when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next door neighbor. Before she says a word, Bob says, “I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel.” After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob.

After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 dollars and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks,…

“Who was that?” “It was Bob the next door neighbor,” she replies. “Great!” the husband says, “Did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?”

          Moral of the story:
If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

          #2:
A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, “I’ll give each of you just one wish” “Me first! Me first!” says the administration clerk. “I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.” Poof! She’s gone. “Me next! Me next!” says the sales rep. “I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.” Poof! He’s gone. “OK, you’re up,” the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, “I want those two back in the office after lunch.”

Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.

          # 3:
A priest offered a lift to a Nun. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The nun said,”Father, remember Psalm 129?” The priest removed his hand. But,changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again. The nun once again said, “Father, remember Psalm 129?” The priest apologized “Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.” Arriving at the convent, the nun went on her way. On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, “Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.”

Moral of the story: If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

          #4:
A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A rabbit asked him,”Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?” The crow answered: “Sure, why not.” So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested.

...A fox jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very high up.

          # 5: Power of Charisma
A turkey was chatting with a bull “I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree,” sighed the turkey, but I haven’t got the energy.” “Well, why don’t you nibble on my droppings?” replied the bull. “They’re packed with nutrients.” The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Moral of the story: Bullshit might get you to the top, but it wont keep you there.

          # 6:
A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

          Moral of the story:
          1. Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy
          2. Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend
          3. And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep your mouth shut !
